Steinbock Minerals

Corporate Responsibility

Operating in a responsible and sustainable manner is important to Steinbock Minerals. Whilst we run our business in line with the expectations of diverse global stakeholders, we also see corporate responsibility as a discipline that helps us to manage risks and maximise on the opportunities presented to us in a changing world.

We take our corporate responsibility seriously across the Group as an employer, miner, trader and a consumer. We are committed to understanding, monitoring and managing our social, environmental and economic impact to enable us to contribute to society’s wider goal of sustainable development. We aim to demonstrate these responsibilities through our actions and within our corporate policies.

We focus our CSR activities in the following key impact areas:

Business Ethics

Business ethics are central to our commitment to CSR and operation as a private body. It is essential that our staff act and behave ethically, fairly and with integrity and honesty in all our activities and relationships with our stakeholders. We maintain internal controls and ensure standards are met. Our ethical policy is designed to support our aims by our principles outlined in the staff guidance in how we approach day-to-day decisions and the actions they lead to. We seek to be honest and fair in our relationships with suppliers and contractors, and encourage them to abide by our standards.

Health & Safety

We shall provide, and strive to maintain, a clean, healthy and safe working environment. Providing a workplace where our employees feel safe is not only a legal obligation, but a fundamental factor in building their engagement with the company. Through management intervention, awareness campaigns and a culture that encourages employees to raise concerns about the workplace safety, we aim to reduce the frequency of accidents. Our Health & Safety Best Practice Group promotes and develops cooperation between all subsidiary companies and employees to ensure health and safety management is embedded into management and business processes. Our Health & Safety Policy supports this.

Customers

We are in business to deliver value to our customers. All that we do is geared to providing quality products and the best possible customer experience. We have a passion for excellence and we take pride in our ability to solve our customers’ problems, focusing on delivering innovative solutions in a timely manner. We aim for true customer satisfaction by understanding our clients’ needs and building sustainable partnerships.

Our People

We recognise that the greatest resource we have is our staff. Talented and committed individuals are the key to our CSR efforts. Our People Strategy articulates aims, responsibilities and key improvement activities in relation to our approach to people within the organisation. We aim to promote staff well-being by ensuring they have the appropriate knowledge, skills and technology to do their jobs, and work in a safe and healthy environment. We wish to be an organization that prioritises the well-being of people in an inclusive culture that values diversity and is free from bullying, harassment and discrimination. Our Anti-Harassment and Equal Opportunities policies are designed to support our aims by articulating our approach and outlining how we will deal with issues if they arise.

Environment

Steinbock Minerals is committed to reducing our environmental footprint to help protect the planet's natural resources for future generations. Climate change is one of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world, and evolving scientific evidence shows we need to move quickly. We try to continually improve our environmental performance wherever practicable and prevent pollution. We aim to make the most efficient and effective use of all resources, encouraging all our people to develop a sustainable approach to their work. We reduce and reuse where possible, be it avoidance of plastic cups and reusing of printer paper.

Local Community

We aim to respect the different cultures and rights of individuals and indigenous peoples in the community in which we operate. We assist colleges in the work experience placement programmes. We encourage our people to support charitable organisations through voluntary fundraising activities, and give them the time and opportunity to participate in charitable events.
